Limpopo health spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana says the girl had already passed on when the EMS personnel arrived at the scene.

"Indeed, our EMS personnel responded to the scene and upon arrival, they examined the patient only to find that the patient had unfortunately passed on. By law, the EMS personnel are not allowed to certify death. They had to call the Intermediary Life Support Personnel to come and officially certify the patient dead".

The DA in Limpopo, on Monday called for a full-scale investigation following the death of a 12-year-old patient who was allegedly 'abandoned' by an ambulance from Mugodeni Grace Health Centre.

Spokesperson, Lindy Wilson says the EMS personnel claimed they were not equipped to assist the child.

"The EMS crew from the hospital, who seemingly entered the home with no equipment, checked the child’s eyes and mouth, and then stated that they were not equipped to assist the child. They further advised that they had a pregnant woman in the ambulance and would have to call another ambulance from Letaba, and then left the child".

Shikwambana denied all these allegations and made it clear that their emergency vehicles are fully equipped.

"Before the ILS could arrive, the basic life support personnel had to respond to another emergency in the vicinity of a priority 2 patient. They rushed to the second scene before ILS personnel could arrive to the first scene. It is not true that they left the first scene because they did not have the required equipment".
