LISTEN: ANC Gauteng conference to go ahead despite court challenge
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng says its provincial conference will go ahead this weekend despite a notice by disgruntled members that they will challenge the Sedibeng regional conference.

The party’s provincial leadership briefed the media in Johannesburg on Monday.
Four branches in the Sedibeng region issued the ANC with an intention to have a court declare the June regional conference null and void.

The ANC’s Hope Papo told the media there is a campaign to destablise the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
“If you don’t have resources but take a case to court with an advocate or maybe a senior counsel, it’s very clear that there is somebody financing that campaign. That is why we are saying those who take the ANC to court and lose cases must pay the legal costs.”
He says the ANC will take action against members who do not pay their own legal fees when taking the party to court.
The party’s acting provincial chairperson, David Makhura, says despite the looming court battle, they believe the provincial conference will be a success.
“For the past two months the ANC has re-organised itself, we have a lot of fresh energy in our structures across the province, in particular in municipalities we lost. We have leadership collectives that have what it takes to comfortably win the 2019 elections.”
He says the conference will focus on growing the Gauteng economy.
