[LISTEN] ‘Arrest Dlamini-Zuma for contempt of court’ – Liberty Fighters Network claims lockdown doesn’t exist
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
The Liberty Fighters Network wants Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to be arrested for being in contempt of a court order.

Earlier in the year the High Court in Pretoria declared the lockdown regulations unconstitutional and invalid.
The department was given leave to appeal parts the judgment at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein, but the appeal lapsed in October.
The network’s president Reyno de Beer says the closure of beaches, restrictions on funerals and restrictions on business trade remains unconstitutional and invalid.
“We thoroughly believe that the minister is currently in contempt of court of our first order we’ve obtained on 2 June.
“We have addressed that to the minister, we started the process two weeks ago already when the closure of the beaches were discussed, she failed to acknowledge that. Instead, she continued to acknowledge that she made a mistake and on 23 December she in fact filed her notice to appeal with a condonation application, but in terms of the law that condonation application for late filing does not suspend the operation of the judgment,” De Beer explains.

He claims the newly promulgated level 3 is in contempt of the court.
“We’ve discussed this matter with legal experts, and they are all in agreement with our argument and we plant to bring an end to this continuous lockdown and the unreasonable regulations once and for all.
“We are of the belief that the people have been so obedient to regulations that were never there.
“Irrespective of whether you believe or you don’t believe in the Covid-19 disease, the fact remains that our constitutional rights have been deprived from us. They are treating us like children, there is other legislation that they could have utilised.”
The group wants the court to order Dlamini-Zuma’s arrest.
“We’d like to ask for the imprisonment of the minister.
“The court must issue an injunction against the government for preventing them from going to a higher alert level other than level 1,” says De Beer.
The latest amendments to the regulations were gazetted this week in the wake of rapidly rising Covid-19 infections.
