Workers
affiliated to the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have warned of a national
strike at Telkom, MTN and the South African Post Office (SAPO) in July.
The union held a press briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
General-secretary Aubrey Tshabalala said the demands are related to salary increases, spectrum allocation and the amendment of the Banking Act.

The union is demanding a salary increase of 12 % at SAPO, for Telkom to restructure its model in determining salary increases, spectrum allocation for digital broadcasting to favor Telkom over MTN and the Banking Act to be amended to allow for a state bank.

“Failure to deliver on these demands CWU will unleash the rollout of mass actions that will be characterized by stayaways, marches and lunch hour picketing,” said Tshabalala.
The union plans to shut down all Telkom and SAPO offices across the country on July 6th, with the main march in Gauteng and close down all MTN branches on the 13 of July.
