Former Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has remained tight-lipped on the next step in her political career.

De Lille plans to take leave for two weeks before making a possible announcement on her political future.

“I have to consult my family. I am also writing a book. I have not spent a lot of time with my writer. I am going to finish the book,” said de Lille following her announcement that she will resign as the Cape Town’s first citizen on Wednesday.

Upon finishing her book, she also promised to continue the legal battles against the “idiots” who she believes smeared her name.

“I will invest whatever little money I have to make sure that I clear my name.”

She also resigned from the Democratic Alliance (DA).

De Lille remained cagey when asked by a journalist whether she will revive her former party, the Independent Democrats (ID).

“I am prepared to serve my country in any capacity. This certainly is a bend in the road in my career but is certainly not the end.”

The DA welcomed De Lille’s double resignation, saying its time to put the saga behind them.

The party’s Natasha Mazzone says mayor-elect Dan Plato is expected to be sworn in as a City of Cape Town councillor on Thursday.

“He will bring stability to the turbulent caucus."
