On Friday, a banner could be seen on the N1 north just before the Rivonia off-ramp bridge bearing the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA)'s name and stating: "We will never pay e-tolls!!!"
In the wake of Finance Minister Tito Mboweni's hint that e-tolls in Gauteng are here to stay, defiant motorists have made it very clear they have no intention of paying.
On Wednesday, Mboweni said the Minister of Transport would announce the way forward for e-tolls, but "not paying your tolls is not an option."
Mboweni said: "We need to build a culture of payment, as government services can only be sustainable if all of us that can pay for services, do so."
On Thursday, Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula said Cabinet is yet to finalise a decision on the future of the unpopular user-pay system.
