[LISTEN] Eskom: South Africans need to brace for 2 years of load shedding
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
South Africans should brace themselves for rolling power blackouts for the next two years as Eskom battles to catch up on maintenance.
The struggling power utility will implement stage 2 load-shedding from 21:00 on Wednesday evening until 08:00 on Thursday morning.
“The volatility of the system, the unpredictability of the system – and that is the reality we are living in. It becomes quite difficult for us to give you a forecast for a week ahead because it really just depends on how the system performs on the day,” says Eskom spokesperson Dikatso Motae.
Motae says the fresh batch of rolling power blackouts was necessitated after emergency reserves, including diesel was used to supplement the power network.

They will have to be replenished overnight to meet Thursday’s demand.
Motae blamed a lack of maintenance work for the continued implementation of load shedding.
She says load shedding is here to stay – for at least two years.
