Etzebeth has been accused of assault and using a racial insult during an altercation in a pub in Langebaan in August.

Speaking during his interview for the position of deputy public protector in Parliament on Tuesday, Jones claimed there have been more people who have suffered at the hands of the Rugby World Cup winner.

He said the Langebaan community requested a meeting with the commissioner in October to tell their side of the story.

“It is correct that I said we will make an example of Mr Etzebeth, this statement was made in reference to the criminal theory of deterrence,” he told the portfolio committee on justice.

“We have been told by complainants, by members of the community, that they had previously reported incidents to the police and nothing had been done.

“A fellow white compatriot also sent me an email, sent me text messages saying: ‘He stays here in Parow and that I have also been victim and I am still awaiting to hear from the NPA on what they will do about this’.’’

Etzebeth has applied to set aside the commission's decision to institute legal proceedings against him in connection with the Langebaan incident.
