LISTEN: Mark Barnes resigns as SA Post Office CEO
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Mark Barnes will leave the South African Post Office after announcing his resignation as CEO on Thursday.
Spokesperson for the post office board Charles Nwaila says Barnes sent his resignation letter on Wednesday.
"Yesterday we received the resignation letter and the board met, considered the resignation and accepted it. He believes very strongly that the Postbank must be integrated with the Post Office and he indicated that he cannot continue with the company. But for us, as SAPO, our core business is not banking. It’s operations."

Barnes has been with the post office for three-and-a-half years.
SAPO COO Lindiwe Kwele has been appointed as acting CEO until a permanent replacement is found.
Nwaila says the resignation will not affect the payout of social grants by the Postbank as systems will remain in place.
