[LISTEN] The matric maths question that can’t be answered – DBE to intervene
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Department of Basic Education says Grade 12 pupils who wrote Maths Paper 2 on Tuesday will not be disadvantaged by an impossible question, worth seven marks.
This comes after the matric candidates took to social media to raise their complaints about a Maths Paper 2 question 5 that could not be answered.
The department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the department is aware of the situation and an announcement on the remedy will be announced soon.
"The Department of Basic Education can confirm that we received complaints regarding the issue with Maths Paper 2, the department is looking into the matter, but we have regulations that provide for issues like this one in terms of how we can deal with them. We will make an announcement very soon, people shouldn't panic, it has happened before, so we have a precedent on how to deal with it,” he said.
“No learner will be disadvantaged, and this is very important to say because people think there is a crisis, when in fact there is no crisis there are ways to provide for a remedy in situations like this one."
