Police Minister Bheki Cele says there is no need to bring the South African National Defence Force to curb the looting in and around Johannesburg.
Cele was speaking to the media outside Jeppe Police Station on Tuesday afternoon after he had a meeting with the police officers.
There have been widescale looting and violent protests action in Johannesburg and Tshwane for almost two weeks.
The violence erupted in Tshwane last week when Jabu Baloyi - a taxi driver - was shot and killed allegedly by foreign nationals.

Cele said the situation in Johannesburg cannot be compared to what is happening in the Western Cape, where soldiers were deployed to help quell gang-related violence/
"In Western Cape, we requested the SANDF to go and face gangsters there are no gangsters here. These are communities mixed with the problem they are facing criminality they are putting.
"There are communities who made the call in Western Cape and we have a specific approach targeted gangsters. I don't think we are near that."
Cele said more police will be deployed to hotspots.
