LISTEN: Pretoria East could be without power until Sunday
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The City of Tshwane has confirmed that repair work at its Waparand
substation, which went up into flames on Tuesday, will take longer than
expected.
The city’s spokesperson Selby Bokaba says power will only be fully restored on Sunday.
“The team initially underestimated the extent of the damage to the substation by saying that the estimated power restoration period would be between two to three days. However, we have since revised the estimated restoration time to Sunday...”
Bokaba says the cause of the fire was unusual.
“It is not often that we experience faults in the network that could lead to a fire. The city always treats all emergency power interruptions the same regardless of the area where the emergency power interruption occurred.”
Affected areas include Wapadrand, Faerie Glen, Equestria, Silver Lakes, Lombardy, Zwavelpoort, and Olympus.
