South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) members in the cash-strapped West Rand District Municipality are set to march to the office of the Gauteng Premier David Makhura.

The workers started protesting on Tuesday morning, demanding the municipality pay their third-party claims, including medical aid, provident funds and housing allowance.
The union’s Theo Thula says members third-party claims have not been paid for the past three months.
"They are demanding to be paid with immediate effect because it is affecting their provident fund investments," says Thula.
He adds bank are starting to harass members for failure to pay their home loans.
