ICYMI: Ukraine, Russia crisis leads to dramatic spike in SA fuel prices
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Consumers are likely to feel the pinch in the pocket on Wednesday when the fuel prices changes take effect.
This after the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced massive hikes amid the escalating diplomatic crisis between Russia and the Ukraine.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the global falling out has led to a surge in crude oil prices amid supply fears.
The subsequent sanctions on Russia by the USA and United Kingdom have also contributed to the increase in crude oil prices.
Departmental spokesperson Robert Maake says both grades of petrol will increase by R1.46 per litre.
Diesel will increase between R1.44 and R1.48 per litre, while illuminating paraffin will see a spike of R1.21 per litre.
Maake adds LP gas will retail for 70 cents more per kg.
