[LIVE] Mboweni tables all-important budget
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
All eyes will be on Finance Minister Tito Mboweni on Wednesday afternoon as he delivers the much-anticipated budget speech.
Mboweni will table the annual budget in the National Assembly where he is expected to detail the ways in which the government will try and avoid a fiscal disaster.
A scale-back in public spending, raising revenue, failing state-owned enterprises and job creation are likely to be high on the agenda.
To add to the pressure, rating agency Moody's will also be watching like a hawk.
Moody’s is the last international credit ratings agency which is yet to downgrade the country to junk status. The budget will ultimately determine whether South Africa keeps its investment grade rating.
