Load shedding to continue on Saturday, Eskom confirms
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Power utility Eskom says it will implement load shedding for a second consecutive day on Saturday.
Eskom implemented power cuts for the first time this winter on Friday.
Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says pressure on the grid is likely to persist over the weekend.
“Load shedding will then be suspended until 09:00 tomorrow, when it resumes again at the Stage 2 level and continue until 22:00.
“Even though some of the units are expected back in service tonight, continuing with loadshedding tomorrow is necessary in order to replenish the emergency generation reserves to better prepare for the coming week.”
Mantshatsha adds: “Eskom urges the public to continue reducing electricity usage to help us limit the impact of loadshedding. Eskom will communicate should there be any significant changes to the supply situation.”
Eskom's direct customers can find their schedules on the Eskom website.
Residents in Johannesburg can visit City Power’s load shedding site.
