Load shedding makes a return on Sunday
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Eskom on Sunday announced the return of stage 1 load shedding after a Saturday free of planned power cuts.
Stage 1 will be implemented from 16:00 on Sunday until 05:00 on Monday. Thereafter, load shedding will alternate between stages 1, 2 and 3 for the remainder of the week.
The entity's spokesperson Daphne Mokoena said the need to implement power cuts is due to a shortage in generation capacity.
"Unplanned outages are currently at 17 270MW of generating capacity, including the delayed return to service of Koeberg Unit 1, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5 265MW.
"Approximately 5 300MW of generating capacity is anticipated to return to service this coming week, " added Mokoena.
