Looting of cash-in-transit van caught on camera

Police say it's the first time they've seen anything like it.

A video has surfaced on social media showing the looting of a cash-in-transit van in Rustenburg.
North West police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the incident happened on the R510 near the Monakato village late last Monday.
He says the criminals used explosives to blast open the safe - after which bystanders proceeded to help themselves to the cash.
In video footage posted on Intelligence Bureau SA, scores of people can be seen storming towards the van in an effort to pick up notes which was strewn all around the vehicle.
Mokgwabone says such acts pose serious challenges during the investigation as the crime scene is contaminated.
He says police are investigating what action can be taken against those seen looting in the video.
Seven people have since been arrested.
Mokgwabone says the suspects have since been released on a warning.
They are expected back in court in October.
