The 26 slain police offers will have their names engraved on the national memorial wall at the seat of government.
Mabuza said the day is meant to honour the memory and lives for those who chose the safety and well-being of others above their own.

"Your loss is our loss. Your pain is our pain. Your grief is grief that is shared by all South Africans,” he told the families.
"We say this as recognition that police officers are rare and steadfast patriots who place their lives, on a daily basis, on the line for the cause of keeping us all safe and protected."
Mabuza urged the community to work with police to help catch criminals.
"It is in active police-public partnerships that we shall restore stability and order. It is in active police-public partnerships that we will prevent wanton murder of our police officers."
