Mabuza tells Alex residents 'building houses takes long'
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Former Deputy President David Mabuza says the ANC has made progress in building houses in various communities across the country.
He was in Alexandra on Thursday, asking residents to give the ANC another chance at the polls on the 29 of May.
In April 2019, President Cyril Ramaphosa promised to build one million houses as part of the Alexandra Renewal Project.
The estimated budget for renewal was R1,3 billion over seven years.
The government has since dismissed claims claims of corruption, amid complaints that no houses were built.
EFF and DA have continously criticised the ANC for failure to deliver on this promise.
However, Mabuza said the process of building houses takes a long time.
"Building houses is a process that we are currently doing. We have built a lot of houses and I am aware that there are a lot of people that are without houses, that is why I am saying we have done so much. I am aware that there is still a lot that needs to be done.
"So, we are on a journey and we cannot betray our people, I am aware of the challenges that are within the ANC, those are challenges that we are going to resolve as the ANC. We are not going to allow failure to define us, we are going to learn from our failures and do better," he said.
