Maile coy on ANC leadership race
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Gauteng Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile is not willing to say whether he is gunning to become the African National Congress' (ANC) next deputy chairperson in Gauteng.
The ANC in Gauteng is expected to hold its provincial conference in June, with three contenders set to square up for the position.
Former Joburg Mayor Parks Tau, Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi, and Maile are expected to go head-to-head in the run-up to next year's elections.

Speaking to Jacaranda FM News at the launch of the African Investment Forum in Sandton on Tuesday, Maile said he will first wait for the nomination process before he declares his availability for the position.
“Branches of the African National Congress have not yet expressed their views. Once they have done so at an appropriate time, we will be able to respond whether we are running or not or whether we are available or not.
“One thing I can tell you is that I have never been scared of taking any responsibilities, or rather that I have never disappointed the ANC before."
Maile also refuted allegations that his backers are trying to unseat Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
He said people should not use his name to destabilise the province.
