Maimane demands copy of state capture report

DA Leader Mmusi Maimane says he has written to the new Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, requesting a copy of the state capture report.

According to Maimane, Mkhwebane is required to hand over a copy of the report by the Constitution.

"As the complainant in this matter, I am entitled by law to be provided with a copy of this report, which has been completed according to outgoing Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela," Maimane said.

The release of the report will be challenged in court by President Jacob Zuma and Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen in November.

It has since been delivered to Mkhwebane after former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela sent it to the Office of the Speaker of Parliament

, Baleka Mbete, for safe keeping.

Maimane says the report is complete and should be released.

"There exists no reasonable justification to not furnish the complainant with the report - nevermind make it public as constitutionally mandated to. Advocate Thuli Madonsela's statement that the State Capture report is final and cannot be changed means that the current report must be handed over to the complainant. It's just that simple," he said.
