Makhura was speaking on the sidelines of ‘Operation COVID-19’, organised by Operation SA on Saturday morning in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg.

The premier wants South Africans to unite and fight the spread of the coronavirus as they commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre.

“Let’s all come out to fight hand in glove to overcome the spread of the coronavirus. And everyone can do something, it is showing here communities can come together and do something,” says Makhura.

Makhura said it is important to remember that access to health care is a human right while the country deals with the coronavirus outbreak.

“On an occasion like this as we are facing coronavirus, I want to say we will do everything to build a health care system that is able to serve every person regardless if the have money or not.”

‘Operation COVID-19’ distributed over 40 000 soaps in the area as part of a campaign to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
