Gauteng Premier David Makhura visited the Lipudi family home on Monday to relay his condolences to the wife and family of the late mayor.
Lipudi died at Helen Joseph hospital in Johannesburg on Sunday morning following a short illness.
Speaking outside the home, Makhura said he was saddened by the loss of an old friend.
"Certainly the people of our province, the people of West Rand, and the communities of Mogale City have lost a great servant of the people in the person of mayor Patrick Naga Lipudi.
"I have known the mayor for quite a long time. Me and him served together as secretaries.”
