Makwarela ‘was killed by stress, depression’ claims EFF in Tshwane

The EFF in Tshwane has blamed the sudden death of former mayor Murunwa Makwarela on “power-hungry politicians”.
Makayla passed away at Leratong Hospital in Randfontein on Tuesday following a short illness.
He served as council speaker, councillor and mayor in the capital city.
Makwarela resigned as mayor after he was found to have submitted a fake insolvency rehabilitation certificate.
The EFF’s Obakeng Ramabodu told a council meeting on Thursday that the former mayor “was used and just tossed aside”.
“He was killed by depression, stress, attacks from those who claimed to love him. They used Mr Makwarela and sent him to the cemetery. It must be known that these whites killed Mr Makwarela. He was killed because of people who love power,” added Ramabodu.
The cause of Makwarela’s death has not yet been confirmed, and it was also unclear who the “whites” were that Ramabodu was referring.
Earlier this month, he was granted R10,000 bail after pleading not guilty to fraud charges in the Specialised Crimes Court.
The former mayor always maintained his innocence.
