Malema welcomes election of new Tshwane mayor

EFF leader Julius Malema has welcomed the election of the new Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya.

ActionSA’s Moya secured 122 votes during Wednesday’s council sitting, defeating the former DA mayor, Cilliers Brink, who received only 86 votes.
The EFF, ANC gave their support to Moya, who previously served as the deputy mayor.
Brink was removed through a motion of no confidence.
“We call on the newly elected mayor to hit the ground running, consult the collective and deliver the services to all the people of the City of Tshwane and avoid prioritising areas on the basis of race, like the former mayor,” Malema told a media briefing in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Malema also welcomed the dissolution of the Thabazimbi Local Municipality Council.
An administrator, Paul Maseko was appointed on Monday to lead a team of experts to restore governance in the Thabazimbi Municipality after council was earlier dissolved by the Limpopo provincial government.
The Council was dissolved after the provincial government took various measures to ensure stability in the municipality, which has faced management challenges since the 2021 local government elections.
“We view this development as necessary. The whole municipality is dissolved and is expected to hold elections in all 12 wards on 4 December,” Malema said.
“It is the people of Thabazimbi who suffer from poor service delivery because of dysfunctional municipal council.”
