Man accused of killing German tourist denied bail
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The man accused of gunning down a German tourist near the Kruger National Park has been denied bail.
Napoleon Joseph Nyalunga (35) made his second appearance before the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Nyalungu was arrested after German tourist Jörg Schnarr was shot and killed during a botched hijacking in October.
The 67-year-old man, his wife, and two friends were attacked on the notorious Numbi road near the Kruger National Park during a tourist visit to South Africa.
Schnarr died when the suspects fired several shots through the window of their car after he refused to unlock the doors.
The NPA's Monica Nyuswa says Nyalunga has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance in January 2023.
"The court felt that the accused, Napoleon Joseph Nyalunga failed to prove that there are exceptional circumstances which permit his release on bail."
