Man to appear in Cape Town court for murder of US tourist

A 27-year-old man is set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder.
This comes after the murder of a 23-year-old man at the popular Atlantic Point Backpackers on Cavalcade Road in Green Point on Friday morning.
The American tourist was allegedly stabbed to death following an argument.
The spike in the mugging of cyclists, hikers and tourists in Cape Town has raised concerns.
Recently, three athletes were mugged during the RMB Ultra-trail Cape Town's 160km race.
In response, a joint operation was launched between SanParks, the South African Police Service and the City of Cape Town law enforcement to tighten security.
“The motive for this is possibly an argument. A knife was handed in as an exhibit, and the arrested suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” said police spokesperson FC Van Wyk.
