A 29-year-old man is expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with kidnapping.
This after he allegedly kidnapped a two-year-old boy at a shopping centre in Umhlanga on Thursday.
According to KwaZulu Natal (KZN) police spokesperson, Jay Naicker the boy was grabbed from a shopping trolley while his grandmother was paying for her purchases.
"The frantic grandmother spotted a man dressed in security guard apparel entering a shop with her grandson", says Naicker.
"She grabbed the child from the man's arms and reported the incident to the mall management who then contacted the police."
Once police arrived at the scene they viewed the mall's CCTV footage and the man was immediately identified as a security guard who was on duty at the mall.
He was promptly arrested.

"At this stage, we don't know what the suspect's intentions were," said Naicker.
Naicker adds that the incident once again highlights the need for people to remain vigilant at all time.
"We are appealing to parents to always keep an eye on their children, especially during this peak festive period."
