Emergency services in Johannesburg confirmed the death of a man amid the heavy rains in the city.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, was recovered along Witkoppen Road and Rivonia Road in Sandton on Sunday.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says the man’s body was retrieved from the swollen Jukskei River.
Mulaudzi says the man’s car was stationary when he became entrapped.
“It looks like he could have drowned. His death still subject to investigation. He was identified by a passer-by. He is from Johannesburg.”
Ice-cold weather and heavy rain have gripped large parts of Gauteng.
Mulaudzi says they remain on high alert.
