Man killed in Evaton taxi violence

A 57-year old man lost his life and six people were injured when unknown suspects shot at a group of taxi owners at a taxi rank in Evaton on Friday.

Gauteng police spokesperson, Katlego Mogale says eight taxi owners parked their cars when the suspects approached and opened fire. 


"It is alleged that this morning at about 07:00, there was about eight taxi owners' vehicles parked at the four-way stop on the Golden Highway near Evaton Mall.  Whilst there, an unknown vehicle approached and fired shots at the parked vehicles," she said. 


Mogale said 11 vehicles where shot at, including a taxi transporting passengers. 


The suspects managed to flee the scene and the motive is still unknown.  


Mogale said a docket has been opened and referred to the Taxi Violence Task Team in the SAPS. 


This incident comes a week after three other incidents of taxi violence in the province
