Police have confirmed the father of the grade 2 learner who took a loaded gun to school is on the run.
According to information given to the department, the pupil at the Dalpark Primary School in Brakpan wanted to use the firearm to shoot another learner.
Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi made the shocking revelation on Twitter on Thursday.
Police confiscated the firearm.
"When the police inspected the firearm they noticed that the serial number of the firearm has been filed off, which simply means it doesn’t have a license" says the police’s Mack Ngomezulu.
He says the learner's father is nowhere to be found.
"When the police called the father to come to the school he said he couldn't. The police are still following up information and looking for the father".
