Manhunt for Pretoria taxi violence suspects
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Police have launched a manhunt for suspects believed to have been involved in the torching of three Taxify vehicles in Sunnyside, Pretoria on Wednesday.
The police say two of the vehicles were set alight during the day while the third was targeted on Wednesday night.
"They were attacked by a group of about seven to eight men who allegedly used a flameable substance to try and set those vehicles on fire," says the police's Captain Daniel Mavimbela.
He adds, "Two of the vehicles burned out completely and the third one only had, you know, slight damages."
While authorities received information on the possible suspects, Mavimbela says they can't disclose at this stage whether they belong to another taxi company.
Gauteng has recently seen a spike in clashes between meter taxi drivers, Taxify operators and Uber driver-partners.
Last night, officers were deployed to the Pretoria CBD to monitor the situation with no incidents reported since.
No injuries were reported during yesterday's violence.
