Mantashe commends Sibanye rescue efforts
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has lauded rescue efforts which saw 1 800 mineworkers brought to the surface at Sibanye-Stillwater’s Thembelani shaft in Rustenburg.
Rails used to transport workers underground at the shaft had fallen, leaving thousands of miners trapped underground on Tuesday evening.
All miners were brought back to the surface after an inspection was done to ensure they could be hoisted up safely.
