Manyi, Mthethwa next on the list to be EFF MPs
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Former chief of policy and strategy at the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Mzwanele Manyi is amongst Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members on the list to become Members of Parliament (MPs), just a month after joining the party.
Manyi resigned from ATM a month ago to join the red berets, claiming that the EFF is the only party capable of holding the ANC to account.
The EFF is the third party he joined in his political career.
Manyi joined ATM in 2019 ahead of the national elections, after leaving the ANC.
The EFF submitted the reviewed candidates list to Parliament on Monday.
The list includes music legend and a member of Kwaito group Trompies, Eugene Mthethwa, who dumped the ANC for the EFF in 2022.
In 2021, Mthethwa chained himself to a pole at the reception of the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) in Johannesburg, demanding royalties for artists.
He said the EFF was the only party that showed sympathy for the artists' struggles.
The list also includes:
- Former EFF Student Command (EFFSC) President, Mandla Shikwambana.
-The EFF national spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys.
- EFF Mpumalanga provincial chairperson and member of the provincial legislature, Collen Sedibe.
- EFF North West provincial chairperson and member of the provincial legislature, Botswe Matshidiso Mathews
and EFF Northern Cape provincial chairperson and member of the provincial legislature,Shadrack Lapologang Tlhaole.
