Mapaila: If Gordhan falls, corruption will never be defeated
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The South African Communist Party (SACP) second deputy president Solly Mapaila has come out in defense of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Mapaila said if South Africans allow someone like Gordhan to fall, everyone who is fighting corruption will fall and the scourge will never be defeated.
He was speaking at a media briefing alongside the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation at the Constitutional Hill on Thursday.
Gordhan recently launched applications to review two reports by Public Protector Busiswe Mkhwebane, who made damning findings against him.
"This narrative that Pravin is anti-black to perpetuate corruption in state-owned entities is completely unacceptable. Look at what happened with VBS mutual bank, top black professionals involved in stealing money belonging to old women and men, we cannot accept that. People like comrade Pravin who have stood firm in fighting against corruption should be protected," said Mapaila

He said accusations around the so-called South Africa Revenue Service rogue unit has already been debunked, but it's still being used to attack Gordhan.
