Massive manhunt after murder suspect escapes from Middelburg holding cells

Police in Mpumalanga are searching for a male suspect who escaped from the holding cells at Emakhazeni Magistrate's Court.
A 29-year-old murder suspect is on the loose after escaping from the court’s holding cells on Thursday.
Police officers were transporting trial awaiting prisoners from the Middelburg Correctional Centre to attend court hearings at Emakhazeni Magistrate's Court.
Karabo Chiloane made a court appearance after being arrested for murder in Machadodorp in November 2020.
Chiloane is also facing several other charges including attempted murder, hijacking, and business robbery.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says it’s alleged that Chiloane somehow got inside a consultation room next to the holding cell without being noticed.
"Later around 10h15 am when the court orderlies went to fetch him so that he could appear in court, it was then realized that he had gone awol.”
A case of escaping from lawful custody is being investigated.
"A preliminary investigation has since revealed that a padlock at one of the burglar doors was missing immediately after it was realized that he made his way to an undue freedom."
