Matrics exam rewrites ‘will benefit pupils in long run’, says Basic Education

The Department of Basic Education says that it is better for matric pupils to rewrite two leaked final matric exams to ensure there is no cloud hanging over their results.
Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga made the comments ahead of the South African Teachers Union (Sadtu) and the Congress of South African Student’s (Cosas) decision to head to court on Monday, to overturn the decision.
“We expected teacher unions to support the department because they understand the work that is happening in schools,” Mhlanga says.

“We thought it was better for them to rewrite so that there is no cloud hanging over their results.”
The class of 2020, is expected to sit again for Maths 2 and Physical Science two papers on Tuesday and Thursday.
A 31-year-old man, who works for a printing company in Joburg, that was contracted to print the NSC question sheets has since been arrested for the paper leaks.
