Maumela to appear before judicial tribunal in March

Suspended Gauteng High Court Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela is set to appear before a Judicial Conduct Tribunal in March.
Maumela was suspended in June last year while presiding over the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
President Cyril Ramaphosa issued suspension letters to Maumela and Nomonde Mngqibisa-Thusi for failure to deliver several reserved judgments within a reasonable time.
The investigation, led by retired Constitutional Court Justice Chris Jafta, stems from a complaint by Gauteng Judge President Dunstan Mlambo.
Judges Matter's Research and Advocacy officer, Mbekezeli Benjamin said if Maumela is found guilty, potential consequences include impeachment and removal from office.
Last month, the lead investigator in the Meyiwa murder trial implicated singer Kelly Khumalo in the soccer star's death.
Khumalo was the deceased’s girlfriend at the time of his death.
