Mbalula: Rebel ANC MPs will face the music
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Newly elected ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says disciplinary steps will be taken against party MPs who voted for the adoption of the Phala Phala report.
Four ANC MPs; Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Mervin Dirks, Supra Mahumapelo and Mosebenzi Zwane defied the party line and voted for the adoption of the section 89 panel report.
The vote on the report would have opened the door for an impeachment process against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The report found that President Cyril Ramaphosa may have a case to answer over allegations he violated the constitution and broke the law during and after the theft of foreign currency at his Phala Phala farm in 2020.
"This is a straight forward disciplinary issue, the NEC has been briefed on the matter and it will not be withdrawn,” Mbalula said on the sidelines of the ANC’s national conference on Monday.
"Disciplinary committee will be seized with the matter and finalise it as soon as possible. When decisions are taken, the ANC members job is to follow those decisions.”
