New ANC treasurer Ramokgopa hopes to stabilise party finances

Newly elected ANC treasurer-general Gwen Ramokgopa says she hopes to stabilise the party’s finances.
Ramokgopa was elected the party's treasurer after beating rival Pule Mabe at the ANC national conference in Nasrec on Monday.
She will have the unenviable task of trying to restore the party’s bank balance as it suffers through an extended cash crunch.
Staffers at the party’s Luthuli House headquarters and some provincial offices went for several months without salaries due to the ANC’s financial woes.

Ramokgopa said the current funding channels will bring stability in the finances of the party.
"I am really hopeful that with the investments that are there, with finances that we get from the Public Funding Act and with contributions that ordinary members make it is possible to stabilise the finances of the organisation and ensure that we have a healthy monthly cash flow, because that was the main difficulty."
Ramokgopa, who succeeds new ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile, is the party’s first woman treasurer-general.
