Mbalula wants cash-in-transit suspects brought to book
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has vowed to track down and arrest a cash-in-transit gang within 72 hours.
Mbalula made the remarks during a meeting with members of the community in Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape.
On Friday morning, a gang of around nine suspects forced a cash-in-transit vehicle off the road on the N4 west near the Ga-Rankuwa exit.
The armed gunmen attacked the security guards before blowing up the safe inside the van.
Mbalula says police are hot on the heels of the suspects.
"I saw some thugs closing the highway in Johannesburg, Soshanguve. And they bombed a cash-in-transit vehicle. I am again declaring a 72-hour manhunt for those thugs. They must be brought to book in Johannesburg."
Earlier, provincial police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said they are searching for nine armed suspects.
"It happened around 08:30 this (Friday) morning. It is alleged that the suspects shot at the G4 security vehicle using rifles and forcing it to stop."
