Mbalula withdraws appeal against Ntlemeza judgement
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has withdrawn an appeal lodged at the Supreme Court of Appeal against a North Gauteng High Court judgement which set aside the 2015 appointment of Hawks head Berning Ntlemeza.
The appeal was lodged by former Minister of Police Nkosinathi Nhleko.
The Police Ministry’s Vuyo Mhaga says they will officially inform the Hawks on Thursday.
“The Minister of Police will on Thursday meet with the top management of the Hawks and inform them of his decision. He will then hold a media briefing in order to take the public into the reasons for his decision. The minister has informed General Ntlemeza of his decision,” says Mhaga.
The Helen Suzman Foundation and Freedom Under Law challenged Ntlemeza's appointment, arguing that it was irrational since two judges had found that Ntlemeza was biased, dishonest and lacked integrity.
