Metered taxi drivers explain their beef with Uber

Drivers in the metered taxi industry have raised concerns about the low fares charged by ridesharing app Uber.
The drivers blocked the R21, R24 and the N12 in protest this morning.
Tshwane taxi driver Jan Masenya Ngobeni says Uber is having a negative impact on their operations, and government should ban it from operating in Gauteng.
A total of 16 metered taxis were impounded by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police for obstructing traffic on the R24, R21 and the N12.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson, Busaphi Nxumalo, says officers have been deployed to areas around the airport to prevent any further blockades.
"We are going to continue with our operations and monitor our roads so that no blockades are happening by the meter taxi operators," says Nxumalo.

Taxi operators are demanding that Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters address their concerns over Uber.
