Metrobus drivers set to down tools
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Johannesburg-based commuters could be in for a rough ride this week with some 250 members of the Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (Demawusa) set to down tools.
Metrobus services will be disrupted in Johannesburg from Monday with bus drivers, cleaners and administrative staff to go on strike.
Demawusa, which is an affiliate of trade union federation Saftu, wants the company to pay salary progression according to the number of years an employee has worked.
It also wants access to resources such as offices and telephones.

Demawusa spokesperson Dion Makhura claims Metrobus’ response to the strike notice has been nothing short of arrogant.
“They must open their mind and be fair to us and then I think we can resolve it quickly, but this time they are arrogant.”
Makhura warns the industrial action could last at least until the end of the week.
