Metrorail service affected in Mamelodi
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Metrorail train services have been affected in the Mamelodi area due to protest action.
Metrorail spokesperson Lilian Mofokeng says trains are short turning at the Eerste Fabriek Station.
"We are unable to go right through to Pienaarspoort Station due to protests we have seen being taken by community members onto the railway tracks," Mofokeng says.
Mofokeng says tyres are being burned on the tracks, making it unsafe to operate trains.
"The service delivery protest has nothing to do with Metrorail. They are related to municipality issues," Mofokeng says.
"We really condemn these acts in the strongest possible terms because now thousands of commuters are stranded from getting to their different economic activities."
Mofokeng says they are unable to provide alternative transport.
"We are hopeful that we will be able to clear the area and see the community pushed out of our operational environment."
