Millions lost in 2022 Commonwealth Games bid: DA
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
DA executive council member, Zwakele Mncwango says Durban should've been mrpe prepared before deciding to bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Event organisers had missed various submission deadlines with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) whirl the Department of Sport and Recreation said last month that Durban risked losing out on hosting the event due to budget constraints.
"It's on record on council and exco minutes where we were against the city incurring costs because by then we were clear that our economy would never be able to allow us to host these Games," he said.

Mncwango has meanwhile called for a probe into the bid.
"Now to come and tell the council that you've wasted more than R100-million on a bid and you won't be able to host these games and you lost the bid - someone must account," he said.
Some of the shortcomings include the city missing an important deadline for payment soon after being awarded the hosting rights in September 2015. SA also failed to assemble a local organising committee.
