Minister to host disability round table
Updated | By ANA
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will host a ministerial disability round table focusing on “Children who experience compounded marginalisation as a result of profound intellectual disability”.
The event will take place at the DBE Conference Centre in Pretoria under the theme “No child left behind”, the basic education department said.
The round table on disability was part of the department’s Disability Rights Awareness Month 2015 celebrations. The discussions would focus on problems faced by government to realise the constitutional right to basic education of all children with disabilities, especially children with severe and profound intellectual disability.
Motshekga would speak on “Realising the right to basic education and support for all children, including those experiencing compounded marginalisation as a result of profound intellectual disabilities”.
Other speakers would include Professor Roy McConkey of the University of Ulster, honorary professor in disability studies at the University of Cape Town, who would share international best practice models, the department said
