Residents in 30 municipalities
across the country face water cuts due to their municipalities being in debt.

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, released the lists on Monday.
The lists show that some of the municipalities owe the Water Board as well as the Water Trading Entity.

Mokonyane briefed the media about the looming water cuts.
She says water cuts are the final resort.
The department is owed a total of R10.7-billion in debt with 73% of this outstanding for longer than 60 days.
"Most of these municipalities are coming from the party that I'm coming from. I think it has to do with the indecisiveness, the lack of prioritization and thirdly the incapacity," Mokonyane says.
The acting CFO at the Water Department's Trading Entity, Paul Nel, reiterates that water cuts are a final resort.
He says a total of 186 municipalities are in debt, however only the biggest defaulters have been targeted.
