Mixed fuel price outlook for August
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) says while the price of petrol is set to increase in August, motorist could pay less for diesel.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard says one of the reasons for the predicted hike in the petrol price is a weaker rand against the US dollar.
“Petrol is set to increase by around about 12 cents and diesel set to decrease by approximately 16 cents.
“The reason for the increase is because of international volatility with regards to oil prices as well the weakening rand-to-dollar exchange rate,” says Beard.
“However, when the diesel price goes down there is some relief, especially for the manufacturing sector.”
Beard warns motorists could see another increase in September if the rand and the oil price continue on the same trajectory.
